SMM series Stereotaxic Micromanipulator

Robust stereotaxic micromanipulator with precise three-axis movement.

SMM-100

The SMM-100 is a three-axis stereotaxic micromanipulator.

The Y-axis comes standard for the Bregma-Lamda reference on Mice/Rats experiment. In addition, angle adjustment provides flexibility of the movement which is useful in avoiding the blood vessels and so on. The setting can be switched to either AP or ML direction.

The SMM-100 has robust design which promises a smooth and steady control whether tilted and/or holding the heavy apparatus such as motorized one-axis micromanipulator (DM system).

The Y-axis knob for AP direction on the brain atlas come standard with SMM-100.

The SMM-100 is equipped with Y-axis for the fine adjustment between Bregma and Lamda and precise movement for the small size brains such as Mice and Rats while the SM-15R/L Stereotaxic micromanipulator, Y-axis unit, SM-15M Substage, is optional.

Full rotation of the knob is 1mm, and minimum graduation is 0.01mm for all axes for the precise control.

The direction of angle can be switched according to the applications.

The angle of SMM-100 can be changed to AP direction (default setting) or ML direction which allows the SMM-100 to be used for a variety of purposes.

Set-up examples of the SMM-100.

SMM-100 is suitable not only for injection, but also for a variety of applications including the electrophysiological recording. Its stable design enables to hold an apparatus such as IMS-20 Stereotaxic Micromanipulator or One-axis Motorized Micromanipulator with DM system while it is tilted. It also can be used for the study of whisker or somatosensory cortex (barrel).

SMM Series

SMM-200/SMM-200B tilts in two directions, AP and ML simultaneously enabling approach of the target in the desired angle.

SMM-100B/SM-200B is the model without Y-axis which is ideal when Y-axis is not needed, or multiple manipulators are placed in close proximity since there will be no interference of the Y-axes.

TAKANOME

Once having been set, the innovative fan-shaped driver never fails to return to where the pipette tip should be. The newly installed knob allows a pipette to move along its axis by using a traditional and smooth oil hydraulic joystick. This manipulator will spare the laborious work of pipette alignment with the optical axis, providing more time for objective operation.

Easy attachment of a pipette

The injection holder is provided with an anchor (special clasp). This special clamp memorizes the length of the pipette from the injection holder, thus exchanging and repositioning of the pipette is much faster and accurate.

* Design tolerance for attachment of a pipette is 10mm. Pipette location can be corrected within the tolerance so that it can be attached in the usual manner.


Pipette angle adjustment is centered at the tip to stay in view

The pipette tip is designed for staying at the optical axis against any angles. Therefore angle adjustment makes it hard to miss the tip in the field of view.

NEW Concept for mouse chronic experiments:

We have developed a NEW concept for stereotaxic instrument for mice. It can be used for chronic experiments and/or under the microscope.

Chamber Frame for SR-9M-HT

"Chamber Frame for SR-9M-HT" is a disposable item. Five pieces of chamber frames are included as an accessory to the SR-9M-HT. A 10-piece pack of chamber frames is sold separately as Model "CF-10".


How to use:

The most striking feature of the SR-9M-HT is the "chamber frame", which can be bonded to the head of a mouse after conventional three-point fixation (mouth, nose and ears). After bonding onto the head of a mouse, the "chamber frame" is all that is needed to fix the mouse in place.

A Change from Hydraulic Control to Pneumatic
For example, catching and releasing of a micro-object in liquid by charge and discharge of air pressure can be controlled more easily, as compared to using an oil-hydraulic-injector.
Oil and Maintenance Free
There is no need to fill oil into this injector. Install the capillary, and it is ready to use. The air pressure can be controlled with the same response as using an oil hydraulic injector.
Smooth Pneumatic Control
This pneumatic injector was designed to have smooth control. It is designed to be the same quality that Narishige is known for. The smooth pneumatic control will surprise you.

Usually, many steps are required to set a capillary on the microscope, however the new IM-11-2/2A injector requires only three steps.

* Unlike an oil hydraulic injector, there is no need to adjust the oil level or check for air bubbles.

Pressure changeability in the pipette tip can be adjusted by changing the volume of the syringe, thereby adjusting operational responsiveness according to your preference.

This is a great advantage of using pneumatic injector. The user may simply use the improved pressure relief valve, and adjust the responsiveness, even when the pipette holds a sample inside.

Through the adoption of a long syringe and a coarse-fine coaxial control knob, the amount of pressure change per knob rotation has increased by approx. 25 times,* which helps achieve a wide range of pressure changeability.

* The data was surveyed by in-house testings. The IM-11-2/2A was set as the standard ICSI usage. The coarse pressure values were measured at the range between the front 5mm and the rear 5mm.

Angle Adjustment of Nose Fixing Metal As usual, when the knob is rotated, the nose fixing metal adjusts the angle in the vertical direction, which makes it possible to fix the animal's upper jaw.
Angle Adjustment of Nose Fixing Metal Different from the previous one, this prototype has a small knob on the side. Loosening the knob to pull out the whole part of the nose fixing metal in an upward direction provides sufficient space that makes it easier to hook the animal's teeth.
